Traffic and Tragedy Strikes Everett

Updated: Feb 22

Yesterday, Everett found itself at the center of a devastating and tragic incident that has left our community reeling. The northbound lanes of Interstate 5 were brought to a standstill near 77th Street on Sunday afternoon, as police shut down traffic in the wake of a horrifying series of events.

The chaos began on West Casino Road, where police say a suspected murder-suicide unfolded on September 22. Two men have tragically lost their lives, and a woman is hospitalized with gunshot wounds. Witnesses quickly provided a description of the suspect’s vehicle, which led police to pursue the individual. What followed was a harrowing police chase, culminating in the suspect’s crash on I-5, where officers reportedly heard gunshots. Authorities confirm the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The ripple effects of this tragedy extended far beyond the immediate crime scene. Traffic backups stretched over three miles, leaving motorists stranded in confusion and frustration as law enforcement worked tirelessly to secure the area and begin their investigation.  It’s impossible not to feel the heavy weight of sadness and shock from this senseless violence. West Casino Road is no stranger to challenges, but each incident like this reminds us of the urgent need for community support and action. Our hearts break for the victims, their families, and everyone affected by this devastating event.
